Early 80’s Yamaha Les Paul (Lord Player)
Yamaha LP500 Lord Player, red sunburst, made in Japan 1984.
The 'Lord Player' series was the short-lived mid 80s sequel to the also excellent and also short-lived 'Studio Lord' series made from 1976-83.
There was a couple of structural tweaks: a one piece neck, open book headstock, and a non-sandwich body are the most notable. As with all these vintage Yamaha guitars, this plays like a dream. It's resonant and feels great in the hands, with nice response to each note.
There's a singing sweetness to the top end and an airy, dynamic quality to the midrange that lends chords and lead lines a tasty complexity.
The cherry burst finish has mellowed a little over the years but remains vibrant, it's a classic and appealing look.
There's a lot to enjoy here and a good reason these vintage Yamaha beauties are well regarded and sought after.

Great condition for 40+ year old guitar
The headstock has some paint chips on the corners and behind the back top edge.
The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples and marks on the back only.
The back of the body has some of the usual buckle rash…but not bad.
Neck binding is in good condition.
The front has a very small indent in the top (hard to see in photos). Other than that it is surprisingly clean and the top is pretty much unmarked.
Additionally the tuners, guard and knobs, bridge and tailpiece are all original.
Overall: very good condition (8/10)
Playing condition: action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. The jumbo frets have no wear. The guitar has been hardly played since it’s professional refret some 8 years ago now. The replacement (big) frets were a significant improvement on the small vintage frets that were in it. It plays great.
The Lord Players have some features which are common to all models, similar to Gibson they are 24.752 scale, 22 Frets and 43mm nut width, with 2 Humbuckers but they have a flatter board radius of around 13.75" compared to Gibson's 10" to 12". They all weigh around 4.2 to 4.4kgs
